How to Tell if Your Nayax Card Reader is Communicating Properly
Check the RSSI Signal Strength
To check the status and signal of your Nayax device, verify the RSSI (signal strength). Follow these steps to check RSSI from the card reader:
- Hit the three horizontal lines (menu button) on the physical card reader.
- Select "Terminal Info" to view the RSSI signal.
Signal Strength Reference:
- 18-39: Good signal
- 99: Not communicating
- Below 18: Low signal
You can also check the RSSI strength from your Moma App or Nayax web application.
Check RSSI via Moma App
- Click on your machine.
- Click "Logs" at the top right.
- Select "Keep Alive" to view RSSI numbers.
The RSSI number appears on the left and shows each instance when the card reader connects to Nayax servers. A consistent number indicates good communication, while fluctuations may indicate an antenna or cell network issue.
Check RSSI via Nayax Web Application
- Click "Operations" and then "Machine."
- Click "Search" without typing anything in the search bar.
- Select your machine from the list that populates on the left.
Note: If your machines aren't labeled, you can type the location name under "Machine Reference" and click "Save." To verify the Machine Number (Operator), check the serial number on the Nayax device or click "Terminal Info" from the card reader's menu.
How to Boost the Signal and Increase RSSI
To improve the RSSI, follow these steps:
- Ensure the antenna jack is securely connected to the back of the card reader.
- Make sure the small 2-inch antenna pole is screwed on top of the machine. You can replace it with a high-gain antenna to improve signal strength. Purchase the high-gain antenna from https://vapetm.com/collections/accessories
- For optimal signal boost, install a Nayax High Gain Omni-Circular Antenna.
If the RSSI remains at 99 (no connection), remove and reinsert the SIM card. Ensure it is properly inserted and then unplug the machine for three minutes. Wait several minutes after plugging it back in to allow it to reconnect.
If the RSSI is still below 18 after installing a high-gain antenna, contact VapeTM Support for assistance.
Communication Errors Resulting in Disputes
If customers are claiming that their money was taken and no product was dispensed, it could be due to a communication error. This means that while the connection appears good, errors are preventing a smooth transaction, leading to disputes. To check for communication errors:
- Log in to Nayax following the same steps as above and click "Keep Alive."
- There will be two columns: one for RSSI (as seen on the Moma App) and one for "GPRS Fail."
- If there are communication errors, a number will be listed in the "GPRS Fail" column. If it is blank, there are no communication errors.
- If you see numbers listed more than once, keep an eye on it. If the issue persists, contact VapeTM Support for further troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
V00 Error Code
The V00 error indicates no communication between the machine and the Nayax device, despite the device being powered on and connected to Nayax's servers. Follow these steps to troubleshoot:
- Enter technician mode by selecting the three horizontal buttons on the card reader.
- Select "Technician Mode" and enter the password (default: 123123 or 8).

- If the error persists, reset the default parameters using the Nayax web application.
Contact VapeTM Support if the issue continues.
V01 Error Code
The V01 error requires updating settings via the Nayax web application:
- Click on "MDB" and select "06 Ignore Pre Selection."
- Click "Save" and then select "Actions" > "Update Queue" to send the configuration to the device.
- Unplug the machine for three minutes, plug it back in, and wait.
Contact VapeTM Support if the error persists.
V02 Error Code
The V02 error is due to cashless payments not being enabled. Unplug the machine for three minutes, plug it back in, and see if the error resolves. If not, contact VapeTM Support.
M00 Error Code
M05 Error Code
This communication error indicates an issue with the SIM card. Remove and reinsert the SIM card, then enter technician mode and click "Restart Device." Alternatively, you can restart the device from the Nayax web portal by selecting "Actions" > "Restart Device."

Nayax Ideal Settings for Vending Machines with MDB Protocol and SIM Card
Introduction
Nayax card readers, particularly the VPOS Touch, are a popular choice for vending machines utilizing the MDB protocol and SIM card connectivity. Proper configuration of Nayax settings ensures seamless communication, efficient transactions, and optimal machine performance. This guide will walk you through the ideal Nayax settings for vending machines operating on the MDB protocol with SIM card connectivity.
Why Nayax is Perfect for MDB Protocol
The MDB (Multi-Drop Bus) protocol is a standard communication interface used in vending machines to connect peripherals such as card readers and controllers. Nayax card readers support MDB seamlessly, offering advanced features like real-time monitoring, telemetry, and cashless payments.
- Reliable and efficient communication with vending controllers.
- Compatibility with a wide range of vending machine brands.
- Enhanced customer experience through contactless and mobile payment options.
Ideal Nayax Settings for MDB Machines
Configuring Nayax devices with the right settings is crucial to ensuring smooth operation. Here are the recommended settings:
1. Communication Settings
For vending machines using a SIM card, Nayax devices need optimized communication settings:
- SIM Card Activation: Ensure the SIM card is activated and has a reliable data plan.
- Connection Mode: Use 4G or LTE for faster and more stable connectivity.
- MQTT vs VPN: Choose MQTT for low latency and scalability. VPN can be used for higher security if required.
2. MDB Protocol Settings
Ensure the vending machine controller is set to operate in MDB mode. Configure the Nayax card reader with these parameters:
- MDB Version: Verify compatibility with your vending machine (e.g., MDB 4.3).
- Cashless Channel: Enable the cashless payment channel in the vending machine’s controller settings.
- Price Communication: Set the pricing mode to ensure accurate price transmission between the controller and the reader.
3. Telemetry and Monitoring
Activate Nayax's telemetry features to monitor machine performance:
- Real-Time Alerts: Enable alerts for low stock, cashless issues, and network interruptions.
- Sales Reporting: Use the Nayax portal to track transactions and machine performance.
- Firmware Updates: Keep firmware updated for new features and security patches.
Best Practices for Nayax and SIM Card Usage
To ensure optimal performance, follow these best practices:
- Signal Strength: Install the vending machine in a location with strong cellular coverage.
- Data Plan Management: Monitor data usage and select a plan that meets the machine’s connectivity needs.
- Secure Placement: Protect the SIM card slot to prevent tampering.

If you have a VapeTM Vape Tower, make sure you use the 6-foot Nayax High Gain antenna! The 3-foot antenna cord is not long enough and only works on the slim and mega wall mounts.” Nevertheless, the high gain antenna pole gives me a 3+ RSSI boost and VapeTM gave them to me for free!
This is better than Nayaxs trouble shooting guide!
